BCIC Welcomes Innovation Island Technology Association to the BCIC Acceleration Network
Partnership brings the Venture Acceleration Program to innovators in
Mid and Northern Vancouver Island
January 23, 2013
Nanaimo, British Columbia – BCIC is pleased to welcome the Innovation Island Technology Association (IITA) as the newest partner in the province-wide BCIC Acceleration Network. Through this partnership, Innovation Island will bring the BCIC Venture Acceleration Program (VAP) and the power of collaboration to technology entrepreneurs and innovators in the Mid and North Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast.
“The technology sector was the second fastest creator of new jobs in the private sector over the past decade, which is why stimulating innovation and commercialization, and finding solutions to real-world challenges here at home is so important,” said John Yap, Minister of Advanced Education, Innovation and Technology. “BC’s Technology Strategy will continue to play a crucial role in supporting industry partners and developing technology companies through collaborations like the Venture Acceleration Program.”
"Growing technology companies face many challenges as they expand to meet new market opportunities,” said Ron Cantelon, MLA for Parksville-Qualicum. “This program will provide valuable mentorship and proven business models developed for just the type of challenges that these companies face. It will help them greatly to set priorities and plan for growth."
The Venture Acceleration Program helps technology entrepreneurs quickly advance their business to sustained profitability. Companies engaged in the program benefit from gaining the experience of successful, trained professionals on their team who have one goal in mind – helping them grow their technology companies.
At $200 per month, the Venture Acceleration Program at Innovation Island will offer exceptional value to startups giving them structured access to a highly experienced advisory team for hands-on advice while coaching them through a staged growth model that is based on growth methodologies from gurus such as Eric Ries and Steve Blank.
“Innovation Island is thrilled to join the BCIC Acceleration Network and offer technology entrepreneurs the resources and expertise they need to grow and expand right here in BC,” said Paris Gaudet, Executive Director of Innovation Island Technology Association. “As the regional champion for technology innovation, our goal is simple – to help entrepreneurs start and grow successful technology companies. Becoming part of this progressive network will do just that and we are excited to be the catalyst that will ignite innovators to take the next step.”
Innovation Island is the 5th delivery partner to join the BCIC Acceleration Network since its official launch in September 2012. To date, more than 67 BC technology companies are benefiting from the Venture Acceleration Program province-wide in the following communities: Victoria through Accelerate Tectoria
the Okanagan through Accelerate Okanagan
Kamloops and the Central Interior through the Kamloops Innovation Centre
, Vancouver through Wavefront
“The power of the Venture Acceleration Program delivered by the Network’s partners is its ability to provide technology entrepreneurs anywhere in the province, easy access to highly qualified entrepreneurial expertise and know-how in an organized and consistent manner,” said Dean Prelazzi, Managing Director of the BCIC Acceleration Network. “The result is the rapid growth of ventures, economic development and job creation across BC. BCIC looks forward to working with Innovation Island and seeing the resulting growth of companies in this region.”
