A budding entrepreneur in the local high-tech industry will be chosen to present their ideas and concepts to an international audience of investors and other business people in Ireland later this year, following a special Pub Summit that will be held at Fibber Magees Irish Pub in Nanaimo next month.

The international Pub Summit, set for Dublin in October, is the largest startup competition for high-tech businesses in the world and Nanaimo is the only community in Canada to be selected so far to participate.

The summit's organizers are searching the planet for 200 outstanding "startup' companies and ventures to pitch in front of over 5,000 attendees from around the world at Dublin's Web Summit, and one of those will be from the mid-Island region in a Pub Summit in Nanaimo, hosted locally by Innovation Island in partnership with the Glacier Media Group

Paris Gaudet, executive director of Innovation Island, said she anticipates that up to 30 local startup companies will be given the opportunity to pitch their investment ideas to a panel of judges at the Nanaimo Pub Summit, which will consist of business and community leaders from the region, and is scheduled to be held on May 9.

The top 10 presenters will be chosen at the event and they will be given assistance with their business pitches until a final winner is chosen in August.

"It's a great opportunity for members of the local high-tech community to pitch their ideas to local judges and to have the chance to participate in the biggest technological conference in the world in October," Gaudet said.
