Crowdfunding: De-Mystified At Workshop

Organized by Innovation Island and featuring the expertise of Keith Ipple, Partner and Co-Founder of Vancouver-based Spring, a company created to assist with business start ups, a handful of entrepreneurial hopefuls had a chance to learn about the complex but potentially invaluable world of business Crowdfunding March 16.

Held in the boardroom of Innovation Island’s SquareOne Tech Incubator in downtown Nanaimo, the two-hour session had been organized to provide attendees with an over view of the Crowdfunding concept, and to assist with the preparation and execution of a successful Crowdfunding campaign.

By its formal definition Crowdfunding is a means of funding a project or business venture by soliciting and then effectively raising money for that project or venture from a large number of people, typically via the internet. In the past everything from bankrolling a movie to launching a new piece of technology has been carried out using this approach. Numerous non-profit organizations have also proven the fiscal worth of this type of financial procurement in recent years.
